July 21: Top Ten Favorite Fictional Couples in Books
These are in no particular order cause its just too hard to rank them –
1) Hazel and Gus, The Fault in Our Stars: So, I may not ever have a list that doesn’t include TFioS in some way or another. But you guys, I LOVE Hazel and Gus. Their relationship is so full of love and tenderness, its heartbreaking but in a way that makes you so glad to have known them.
2) Beth and Lincoln, Attachments: Attachments is my favorite Rainbow Rowell novel and largely because of relationship between Beth and Link. You wait the whole novel for them to find each other and its so worth it. Also, though not a romantic couple, the relationship between Beth and her best friend Jen, is so good – hilarious, real, loving, sarcastic. This novel makes me so happy.
3) Jane and Mr. Rochester, Jane Eyre: I adore the Victorian novels and Jane Eyre is my favorite. I read this book at least once a year and just revel in the relationship between Jane and Mr. Rochester. It is pretty subversive for a Victorian novel in that Jane will not give up her dignity and sense of self for love. She is a very strong and articulate heroine. The love between the two is passionate and true, and when they’re finally able to be together, its all the sweeter.
4) Diana and Matthew, All Souls Trilogy: This series is loads of fun. Diana and Matthew are a witch and a vampire, respectively. So much better than Twilight yall. Diana and Matthew are a star-crossed lovers pair and it is great fun – so passionate, so much adventure.
5) Jessica Darling and Marcus Flutie, Jessica Darling Series: This YA-series is so smart and funny. I love Jessica Darling, the sassiest narrator ever. The way that she falls for Marcus and finds the way to be confident in herself and their relationship is awesome.
6) Jamie and Claire, Outlander Series: Jamie Fraser is the rogue, Scottish heart throb and Claire is his from-the-future wife. They have a really lovely relationship in which they are a true team of equal partners. It is passionate and all-consuming love which is a fun time. Outlander is also now a TV series on Starz and its a really good adaptation!
7) Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, Pride and Prejudice: Although Jane Eyre is my favorite Victorian novel, I’m still a big fan of Price and Prejudice. I mean, naturally. Fiesty heroine who ends up falling in love with the one person she thinks she’ll never like. It is so perfect.

Oh, I adore Jane Eyre! The mystery, the romance, the characterization, the writing style, the setting–it’s all so perfect and I love it. And I gotta say, I love Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy as a couple, though I’ve never read the book, just seen the movie (shame on me). Great list!

Hey Sarah! Everyone is always so enamored with Emily’s Wuthering Heights but I personally think Jane Eyre is better. I’m glad you love it too! Girl, you GOT to read Pride and Prejudice – its so good! I do love the movie though – I’ve only seen the Keira Knightley version though, not the Colin Firth mini-series (my turn for a “shame on me”). Thanks for stopping by and sharing!
